This is my final film for a couple of classes that I took this semester. It's my first real attempt at making a narrative film with actors, and I am extremely pleased. It's based on a short story by Miranda July. I have no intentions of doing anything with the film (copyright and all), but it was a really great exercise.

A lot of people have been asking me what it's about... Which is good? It should be open-ended and up for some interpretation, hopefully! But really, what the film boils down to, for me, is the need to connect and how hard most of us (myself especially?) push away from vulnerable human interaction.

I would really love any comments you may have.

Recently i found a box of old home movies from the early 90s that i had no knowledge of ever existing. they have everything from my first trip to the mall of america to late night public enemy dance parties to first days of kindergarten. the tapes are pretty amazing and i'm working on uploading everything to a digital format and hopefully putting them on dvd. until i can do that, i thought it would be nice to share some highlights with friends and family on a simple youtube channel.

i am totally aware that watching someone else's home movies and/or vacation footage is the dullest thing ever, but it's there if you want to see it, and i'm going to keep updating it.

I have been lighting my menorah at home on occasion. no prayer said, but it is still nice to share the tradition with friends.

This is the menorah that is sitting in my mom's hospital room. tonight we screwed in half of the eight bulbs.

tonight Mo gave me several delicious gingerbread cookies decorated by herself, alex, mark and micky. the shapes, as far as i can tell are: cactus cookie, halloween cookie?, dick in a box cookie, heart cookie, marsupial ? cookie, bear? cookie, and micky's drunken attempt at decorating cookie.

As gifts i have been giving home made jewelry and giving spirit animal readings.

If you were to go back and ask this writer at age 8 or 9 who the most important African-American people are in history, my answer would most likely include the holy black trinity of black history month-- Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman. 13 years later I could almost guarantee you that the answers will be the same from the next generation of young African-Americans being shuffled through our public education system. And while there is nothing wrong with these answers, the question must be asked-- “have there been no admirable African-Americans since the 1960s?” If we were to take the representation of black people in the media, the answer would be an astounding “no.”

That is, until recently.

There is no arguing that there has never been a black man portrayed in the way that Barack Obama has been these past two and a half years. The American people gave gotten to know the Obamas as a competent, successful and intelligent family unit. A far cry from the imagery of rappers with bitches, basketball players with bitches and criminals with bitches that we have been drowning in for years on Black Entertainment Television. We have gotten to know a man who is an active part in his family's life. This was done in large part by the mainstream media around the world that for the first time have begun to see beyond the sterotypes and see the true potential every American has despite skin color.

This push forward towards the end of black stereotypes outnumbering positive imagery in our country is monumental. Black babies everywhere can finally see someone who looks like them on television in a position of power, and know that someday it will be them. I do not think I am being idealistic. If Americans can work through their pre-conceived notions of race to vote a black man into the Presidency, then I am confident that we can overcome all stereotypes about all races someday in my lifetime.

SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge is a roller coaster located at Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America, Bloomington, Minnesota. It is the shortest Gerstlauer roller coaster to date, standing only 67 feet tall; yet it has a 97 degree drop.

Working everyday and getting ready for the brother's graduation has left me worn out and irritable. I spend my free time searching for hints of the glory of summer vacations past, and i think that riding my first roller coaster in years today has set me on the right path. let's hear it for summer! i haven't given up on it yet (it is only june after all).

SUMMER ISN'T REAL YET

It has been too cold since I have finished with school that I don't believe that summer vacation is real yet. So to remedy that, I have filled my apartment with as much greenery as I can. My latest baby is a cutting from an unknown plant that my grandmother gave me on sunday (in addition to a new bike!! ugh best grandparents). any botanists reading this that can tell me what type of plant this is? i could just call her.
